May is a great month to be fishing…
Shad will start spawning soon near bulkheads and retaining walls, which will bring in sandies and Hybrids and catfish. We use swim baits or crank baits such as a rattletrap. For the catfish use small thread fin shad under a cork near the bulkhead.
We are catching limits of sandies and the occasional Hybrid on chrome jigging spoons fished over deeper humps in 24-32 feet of water. Lots of small Hybrids mixed in so check fish carefully, hybrid must be 18 inches to retain.
Also night fishing around lit boathouses can be productive. Use small swim baits, spot light docks better than flood light docks.
Crappie stacked under shaded docks and bridge. Columns 6-12 feet being caught on small jigs and minnows.
As the temps begin to rise, fish will start stacking up shallower.
